Up Whim Creek…

…without a… hammer!

Oppy has been having a LOT of fun at WHim Creek over the past couple of sols. Having been fascinated by it for years, literally, we were all hoping she would drive up close to it, so we’d get some fairly decent images of it, but after driving close Oppy kept going and drove ACROSS it, over onto the other side!

Since then – like any good geologist – she’s been surveying the area, taking in the view, and trying to make sense out of what she was seeing…

Here’s a close-up panorama mosaic of the rocks “in” the Creek closest to Oppy. Apparently this area is being called “Rushall” in honour of a mine in Yorkshire, here in the UK…

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “I bet that would be interesting in 3D…”

Well, see for yourself…!

One part of that view, down at the bottom left there, is worth a closer look…

Finally, a colour view of some of those rocks… can’t wait to see the whole sweeping panorama in 3D…

… but I’ve a feeling that might have to wait until after Curiosity has landed, Oppy’s going to be told to go to her room and not make any noise soon…

But when she is allowed back out of her room, where will she go next? Roughly, along this track…

But that will have to wait. Things are going to get rather quiet for Oppy soon, as – rightly, I suppose – attention will be focussed on her big sister, Curiosity, which is now just over a week away from landing. Until then, keep checking back here for all your Oppy news. šŸ™‚

I can’t believe the science team doesn’t think Whim Creek is more important than a few minutes’ worth of time. That thing looks like a low angle meteor strike to me, but who knows?
