A Wow! of a view…

Oh boy…

Some images came back today that allowed me to create a colour view of that “Rock Garden” we saw in 3D last week. It’s a very, very special place, we knew that already, but now we’ve seen it in colour…. well, just look for yourselves…

That is just… beautiful, isn’t it? I mean, LOOK at it… that’s as close as I’m ever going to get to actually standing on Mars, I reckon.

Some detail…

Oh, I love this place… πŸ™‚

You’re right, that is the best picture because it contains ‘humanity’ – I mean those rocks give impression of a still life arrangement, like something from Earth. It has a human feel to it although it is hard to put your finger on it what in particular makes it look so. Mars is typically inhuman in appearance and a waste wherever one looks and these rocks somehow give impression they weren’t here like this for untold eons -well maybe they were but somehow they give impression like they fell into place not long ago from human like time experience to which the millions of years geologists normally juggle with are thoroughly inhuman, incomprehensible.

You have an anthropocentric view of Mars. Mars is interesting and has its own native, alien beauty. It is not important that pics from Mars remind me of anything “human”, with the exception of photos which include Opportunity the rover, “her” tracks and the marks left on rocks by the “RAT”.

I’m an unashamed romantic, guilty as charged! My “view” is the view of a person who has been in love with Mars ever since he saw its pictures in a National Geographic at school, ever since he read and devoured Kim Stanley Robinson’s “Mars” trilogy.

…and I appreciate Mars’ ‘native beauty’ so much I set up this blog about it… πŸ˜‰
