Oppy’s on the move again..!

After what has seemed like several YEARS of studying Luis de Torres with her cameras, microscope and instruments, Oppy has moved on further along and around the rim of Santa Maria crater, taking up position almost exactly opposite where she first pulled up to the crater’s crumbling edge…

Here’s where Oppy is now, on Sol 2519…

…and here’s Oppy’s new view…

What was that? You want to see it in 3D as well?! Oh, alright then…

So where has Oppy scooted to? Well, she’s now heading north…ish… and is parked up just past a large chunka rock called “Ruiz de Garcia”, which was clearly visible from the other side of Santa Maria…

Looking a little more closely at her latest trip…

It looks like there’ll be no really close-up look at Ruiz de Torres, but the view from where Oppy is now is pretty impressive…

And, of course, a colourised view…

Where next? Well, this panorama shows Oppy’s next “drive direction”…

I reckon she’ll take this route next, or a route close to it, so she can take up position over there on the far side of the crater and take some more detailed photos of the crater, allowing the MER team to create a highly-detailed model of the landscape here…

“A” is just a dark, flat area, but “b” and “c” are pretty large rocks which might be quite photogenic from up close. We’ll have to wait and see!

But one this is sur – it won;t be long now before Oppy turns her back on Santa Maria, and strikes out for Endeavour, which is now just six tantalising kilometres away…

That looks like a long way those 6 kilometers! Just look at the size of the Santa Maria crater in the last picture. I wonder if she’s going to travel in straight line from now on…
