Well, kind of…
Oppy is now taking a good close look at the top of “Whitewater Lake”, the pale, manhole cover-like rocky outcrop…thing… she has driven to having studied the “Kirkwood” outcrop. New images show the rover’s robot arm instrument package positioned right on top of the rock…
Here you can see a close-up of Oppy’s RAT – Rock Abrasion Tool” – almost ouching the rock’s surface….
Placed there in preparation for actually driling *into* the rock? Perhaps. Oppy has certainly already brushed one small area of the surface of the rock clean, in order to take a closer look at the material beneath the ever-present coating of dust, as you can see from this mosaic made offour different images taken by Oppy’s microscopic imager…
That’s a bit boring, a bit washed-out isn’t it? I put it through my “transform into an unashamed pretty picture” machine, and this came out the other end… please, please click on it to see all the beautiful grainy detail on this tiny part of Mars…
Really looking forward to seeing what lies *beneath* the surface of this rock…

Stu, that 4th photo is incredible – so much detail. Thank you.
You’re very welcome. Thanks for reading!
