Almost where? Where has Oppy headed off to since you last visited? What’s going on?!
Don’t panic, you’ve not missed anything. “Almost there” refers to a date,a mission milestone, not a place. Oppy is now *this* close to marking her 3000th day, or “sol”, on Mars.
3000 days. 3000 DAYS.
Unbelievable. Wonderfully, brilliantly, magically unbelievable.
There’ll be a big post all about this on the big day itself, with something special to share with you all. In the meantime, here’s a rather beautiful (I think!) new pic from Opportunity, taken when the Sun was clearly very low in the sky, judging from the contrast and the length of the shadows. I love low angle sunlight pics like this, they really show the detail on the ground and in the rugged martian landscape…
